Pilot-Scale Bio-Oil Production – A Cost-Effective Path to Renewable Aviation Fuels and other Renewable Fuels

Votion Biorefineries has been awarded a grant from Region Västernorrland to support the production of bio-oil on a larger scale than previously. The project aims to explore a wide range of biogenic residues and waste materials as feedstocks. These include straw, bagasse, grass, chicken manure, fish waste, eucalyptus bark, softwood bark, forestry residues, coconut husks, nutshells, and olive pomace.

The resulting bio-oil is refinery-ready—or hydrotreater-ready—thanks to its extremely low levels of contaminants: less than 10 ppm of inorganics and metals, and less than 1% water content. The bio-oils will be evaluated in collaboration with the petrochemical industry.
